Homeschool Groups (Shanghai)
Hi, have you wonder what is homeschooling? Homeschooling does not mean it is school in a home concept where you can just drop your kids. It is a school in your home and you are THE teacher. You may engage others but you must be involved in teaching. It is a tough job. Over in Shanghai, we have support groups catering to the social needs of parents and children.
If you are new to homeschooling, you may want to ask yourself several questions:
1. Why do you want to home school?
2. How much commitment are you willing to give to your child daily, being “the” teacher in the house? Although the benefits of homeschooling are great, many parents do give up because they could not manage the stress of it.
3. Are you prepared to commit yourself to a home school group and become part of the support team? In our home school groups, parents serve in different areas of ministry, e.g. teaching, administration, accounting, planning etc. It is important to have a support group for the social well-being of the children. Kids who are in such support groups learn to socialise with others of different age groups.
4. Are you willing to put your children through Christian Curriculum? Some of our groups listed below are using the Christian Curriculum and no others, while some are open.
5. Are you looking for special needs education? Currently, the groups in this page do not have the capability to support special needs children. You will need to perhaps google that if you are looking for professional help instead of just a support group.
6. If you are a Singaporean, you may want to check out on the requirements of Ministry of Education, Singapore, regarding schooling your children overseas and homeschooling.
Homeschool Groups under this blog: SALT (Elementary) & SCS (High School)
Hi! Before you check out our groups, please look at our statement of faith.
- The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Please note that parents joining our groups MUST agree to The Apostles’ Creed as it is our stand. We do not wish to offend anyone but it is THE founding reason why our groups listed below are formed, it’s like playing a basketball game – you can’t have soccer game rules while trying to play basketball with others. We do want to make the support group a place of peace and enjoyment for all who come, minus the confusion. If you are of the same standing in faith, we appreciate if you will fill in this form and take it with you when you visit – it is up to you to submit the form then or not, depending on whether you find us suitable. This will save us some administration time.
You may visit these groups to see how classes are run. However, as some of our classes and events change without prior notices on the blog, please arrange with the respective Head of Coop one week in advance via email regarding visits. Parents are advised not to bring their children on the day of visit so as to minimise class disruption. Please be informed that the groups are closed for the summer and will resume school on 13th September 2007. Thank you.
