Special Needs Children

Hi,

I understand that you are looking at this page now because you need help here in Shanghai. Unfortunately, SALT and SAIntS do not have the capability in this area. However, we have compiled a small list of people whom you can approach.

1) Pudong Special Needs School – featured here in as a sub-page. No, I didn’t do this report. It was taken from City Weekend Online Magazine.

2) Friends of Hopewww.friendsofhopeshanghai.com. This group “Friends of Hope Shanghai” organises a range of activities that can help families with special needs children. These include a monthly talk organised by the Child Development Focus Group section as well as the Heart to Heart which is a more personal parent support group. Laddawan who is the manager for the Child Development Focus Group and Fiona is the manager for Heart to Heart. For talks and semianrs please contact Siew-Win Poon. You can pass their contact information to any families who might want some information.

Their next talk is on Auditory Integration Therapy on 18th May 6-8pm. It is beneficial to families with children who have difficulty processing auditory information or have hypersensitivities to sounds. For more information, please contact Siew-Win Poon.

3) Shanghai Community Church (English Congregation – Hengshan International Church). This ministry of the church is new and they are still exploring how they can help autistic children here. You may need to know that most of them are volunteers from all walks of life and are not trained in special education. So far, they have organised a party and a kite-flying session for the children but they do not provide training for the autistic children. For this year, their programmes include parties, outings, sponsorships to needy children and training of parents & volunteers. More for fun and fellowship among the children with autistism. Contact person-in-charge Sheila Lim.
